"In mid-November we had a fabulous 'coffee klatch' with a group of high school girls that are passionate about flight," said Williams. "We discussed topics such as 'What it’s like to work in Aeronautics / Aerospace?' in addition to other educational- and career-related advice. The girls were really enthusiastic and had great, pointed questions for me." For the topic of “What to look for in a college,” Kerri recommended carefully investigating both the classes (are they experimental or just theoretical?) and the type and quality of the labs. Kerri, who got her Bachelors from the United States Naval Academy and a Masters from the Naval Post Graduate School, said that the availability of experimental courses and a great laboratory experience significantly added to her knowledge base during schooling.
Kerri enjoys reaching out to spread the word about careers in her industry. At her current post, the U.S. Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in Fallon, NV (this base is where the real Top Gun is located!), the Navy offers outreach tours and activities to local youth. She also is active in SWE, participating with the SNS chapter and related outreach activities.
